Adult Analysis

A four-year training is offered to people wishing to become analytical psychologists. The training programme combines a theoretical programme of personal analysis for a minimum of 150 sessions with the same analyst at a frequency of 4 or 5 times weekly immediately prior to application. Personal analysis must be undertaken with a Training Analyst or Professional Member of this Society. Analysis with Members, with Members of other Societies or with Trainees is not acceptable.

Entry Requirements

A degree or degree equivalent;
A relevant professional qualification is an advantage;
Personal analysis for a minimum of 150 sessions with the same analyst at a frequency of 4 or 5 times weekly immediately prior to application. Personal analysis must be undertaken with a Training Analyst or Professional Member of this Society. Analysis with Members, with Members of other Societies or with Trainees is not acceptable;
Experience of working in the field of psychotherapy with at least two patients out of a broad caseload for a minimum of one year, under supervision.

Outline of Training

The first year of training is a pre-clinical year, followed by a review;
Seminars are held on two evenings of the week and cover theoretical and clinical aspects of analytical psychology; there are three ten week terms during the academic year;
Case discussions are also held;
During the second year of training trainees analyse two patients provided by the CG Jung Clinic and are expected to see each patient 4 to 5 times weekly. Weekly supervision is arranged for each patient;
Intensive personal analysis continues throughout the training.

Assessment

During the third year, trainees make a case presentation to their peers and members of the training staff.
After the satisfactory completion of a two-year analysis with one patient, and one year with a second, trainees submit a written paper on their clinical work.

Cost of Training

The major cost of training lies in the cost of analysis, the fees for which are arranged with the analyst.
Supervision fees are paid direct to the supervisor.

Membership of the Society of Analytical Psychology;
Membership of the British Psychoanalytic Council;
Membership of the International Association of Analytical Psychology;
Members are also eligible to apply for membership of the Confederation of Analytical Psychology and through that body, membership of the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy.
